Ambient methods, such as DESI-MS, are used to analyze untreated samples that are typically chemically complex. High-resolution tissue imaging using the orbitrap, as demonstrated here, is one way to improve the selectivity of ambient ionization methods, a necessity for the analysis of complex mixtures.
